About Us

Ever since 1959, our institute (ITI) has been recognized as one of the region’s oldest and most respected vocational training centers. For over 60 years, the institute has tried to help young people become skilled so they can manage their lives well and take part in the country’s growth.

Beginning of the Institute – Small Step, Big Dream

When the foundation of this institute was laid, its beginning was very simple. This journey began with only 4 trades i.e. vocational courses and a capacity of 64 students. Although there was a lack of resources, there was never any lack in the objectives of the institute. The purpose was clear – to make the youth self-reliant by giving them technical education and to contribute to the industrial development of the country.

In the initial period, as industrialization increased and industries started feeling the need for trained workers, this institute also expanded its direction and scope. Gradually new courses were added and the admission capacity was also increased. The addition of every new trade became a new step in the progress of this institute.

Year 2004 – A Big Change

2004 was a very important year in the history of ITI. This year, the institute was taken to new heights under the Prime Minister’s Special Package of the Government of India. Under this scheme, the infrastructure of the institute was improved, modern machines and tools were arranged, and new courses were started. Along with this, the capacity to train 250 students in 13 trades simultaneously was developed.

For example, where earlier only traditional courses like fitter, welder and electrician were available, now modern trades like electronics, computer operator, draftsman and refrigeration were also added.

World Bank VTIP Scheme – Another Step Towards Self-reliant India

This process of development did not stop here. In a few years, the institute was further upgraded under the “Vocational Training Improvement Project” (VTIP) run by the World Bank and was declared a Centre of Excellence (CoE), especially in the automobile sector.

This meant that the institute now started providing specialized training in automobile technology. Keeping in mind the demand in this field and the bright future of the students, additional seats for 180 more students were added. Along with this, state-of-the-art workshops, computer based simulation tools and experienced trainers were arranged.

Today, the total number of seats in the institute has reached 430, and this number itself tells the story of the quality and success of our training.

Our Courses – To suit every interest and need

We have a variety of trade courses available, which are in line with the demand of today’s industries. Some of the major courses are:

  • Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) – 1 year course, suitable for Madhyamik pass students.
  • Electrician – 2 year course, in which students are given complete practical knowledge related to electricity.
  • Fitter, Welder, Plumber, Draughtsman, Electronics Mechanic, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic, Stenographer (English), Surveyor and others.

Through these courses, students not only gain technical knowledge, but are also taught to do hands-on work – making them immediately job-ready in the future.

Modern facilities – ready for today’s times

Our institute has all the facilities that a modern technical institute should have:

  • Well-equipped workshops – where students learn to work on machines and equipment in a practical way.
  • Computer labs – equipped with modern software and internet facilities.
  • Trained faculty – experienced teachers who not only impart technical knowledge to the students but also make them self-confident.
  • Smart classrooms – where studies are done through digital medium.
  • Library – in which along with technical books, material related to career guidance is also available.

Our students – an example of success

In the last several years, thousands of students have been trained here and today they are working in renowned industries in the country and abroad. Many students have set an example of self-reliance by starting their own business. Some have received higher education and got selected in government jobs.

For example, Rajesh Deb, a student who completed his automobile trade from here, is working as an engineer in a reputed automobile company in Bangalore. Ritika Das, who did her electronics trade, is now running her own mobile repair shop and is also training other girls.

Our aim – Self-reliance through skill

We believe that in today’s era, technical knowledge i.e. “skill” is the real power. This skill makes anyone self-reliant and gives a strong foundation to the country. That is why we constantly update our courses, add new training modules, and try to connect students with the industry.
